Born at Sasthamcotta in 1970 February 19, daughter of Smt. Amritakumari and Sri. Ramachandran pillai. She is a journalist by profession. She is a famous novelist, also writes Film script, Short Stories in Malayalam language. She passed her Master Degree in Communicative English in First Rank, from Gandhigram Deemed University, Tamil Nadu. She joined in Malayala Manorama in the year 1993. From 1995 she is a part of Editorial Board.
K R Meera was first noted for her contributions in the Malayalam Journalism when she bagged the prestigious PUCL Human Rights Award for Journalism in 1998. She started writing fiction in 2001 and her first book Ormayude Njarampu was published in 2002.
Her works include Ormayude Njarambu (short stories), Mohamanja (short stories), Ave Maria (short stories), Malakhayude Marukukal, Karineela (Novella), Aa Maratheyum Marannu Marannu Njan, Meera Saadhu, Nethronmeelanam, Yudasinte Suvishesham (Novels).
Ormayude Njarampu bagged Gita Hiranyan Endowment Award by Kerala Sahitya Akademi, 2004, Lalithambika Antharjanam Smaraka Award for promising writers, 2004, Ankanam Sahitya Award, 2004 and Thrissur Kerala Varma Katha Puraskaram, 2006; while Mohamanja was seleted for E V Krishna Pillai Smaraka Sahitya Award, Karineela won Thoppil Ravi Smaraka Sahitya Award in 2006 and Ave Maria, the Kerala Sahitya Akademi award, 2008 for the best short story collection.
The translation of the story Mohamanja has been publisehd In Arshilata: Women's Fiction from India and Bangladesh (ed. Niaz Zaman), which was reprinted in full in the Literature section of the Bangla Daily, The Daily Star, and the same story was selected and published by The Feminist Review published from London, as one of the three stories from South Asia.
In Journalsim, she has won the prestigious British Chevening Scholarship for Young Indian Print Journalists, 2005 (a part of which was a higher training in The Westminster University, London and a one month Attachment programme in The Sunday Observer, London), the prestigious Deepalaya National Journalism Award for Child Rights, 2001 for a series on children, the prestigious PUCL NATIONAL AWARD for Journalism-1998 for a series on exploitation faced by the women labourers in Kerala, the prestigious Chowwara Parameswaran State Award-1998 for the same series.
She has also been noted as a screenplay writer of 4 serials including KIlikkoodu. She was credited as the Associate in Writing for the film Orey Kadal, 2007.
