sooranad

Sooranad - is a village located in the northern part of Kollam, very near to Sasthamcotta. Sooranad North and Sooranad South are collectively known as Sooranad. The main employment for men and women is cashew nut processing, which takes place in several factories. Sasthamkottah Lake provides drinking water for the community. The village is accessed from both MC (Main Central) Road and NH 47. A tributary of the Kallada River flows through this village. Pallikkal river is flowing through these villages. chakkuvalli

Chakkuvally - Chakkuvally is an important place in kunnathur taluk, situated 5 KM away from Sasthamcotta jn. Chakkuvalli Padanilam is very famous. Chakkuvally was the 18th padanilam (military camp) of Kayamkulam Maharaja. Malanada temple is very near to Chakkuvalli.

Kunnathur - Kunnathur is a Taluk in Kollam district. The capital of Kunnathur Taluk is Sasthamcottah. There is a village with the same name in this Taluk and The Kunnathur village is a small village with its head quarters at Nediyavila. It includes the places like Manampuzha, Puthanampalam etc. Panampthoppu, Nediyavila, Ezhammile etc are certain places in this village.

Mynagappally - A beautiful village / town located at kunnathoor taluk. It's location is 7km east of Karunagappally town and 6km west of Sasthamcotta town. Sasthamcotta railway station is in this village. It's western border is separated by Pallikkal River from Thodiyoor panchayath. Mynagappally panchayat sharing it's south border with Thevalakkara Panchayat, North side with Sooranad panchayat and east with Sasthamcotta panchayat.

This is one of the beautiful village in Kerala, filled with paddy fields and cocunut farms. There are four main market places in this village. Several educational institutions and hospital facilities are here. Panchayath stadium and community center is also available for the public. Having several sports and cultural centers all over the village area. PDP's Leader Abdul Nasar Madani belongs to this Village, His Orphanage Anvarssery also located at Mynagappally.

Very famous temple "Mannoorkkavu devi temple" where Kathakali plays most often is located at mynagappally. "Vettikkadu Siva Temple" and "Cherupilakkal Juma Masjid" and Many Churches are situated here.

Take turn either from Kadapuzha in Bharanikavu - Kundara route or from Karali jn in Sasthamcotta - Chavara route.

Karunagappally - (or Karunagappalli) is a well-developed town in Kollam district, Kerala, India and is situated 27 km north of Kollam, 12 km away from Sasthamcotta. It has a thriving economy and boasts of well developed commercial establishments and public infrastrucutre. Karunagappally is a balanced town with lots of urban development within a pleasing rural backdrop. The place has beautiful back-waters, which connects it to Kollam and Alappuzha. Padanayarkulangara, which forms part of the town, was once the military station of the Kayamkulam Rajas. East Kallada - East Kallada or popularly known as Kizhakkekallada is a village located about 20 Km north-east of Kollam city, 6 km away from Sasthamcotta. East Kallada is bounded by Kallada River in the west and north and Ashtamudi backwater in the south. It is believed that the old port 'Nelkynda' mentioned by Periplus of the Erythraean Sea is Kallada or its nearby place. East Kallada is also a part of Travancore history. In 1730 Unni Keralavarma of Desinganadu invaded East Kallada, that was part of Venad at that time. Marthanda Varma immediately attacked Desinganad and added East Kallada to Venad.
